Plutonium in drinking water: effects of chlorination on its maximum permissible concentration.

Soluble plutonium is oxidized to the Pi(VI) oxidation state by chlorine during water treatment. Under certain conditions Pi(VI) is readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It appears that due consideration has not been given to the effect that the presence of plutonium in this oxidation state may have on the maximum permissible concentration of plutonium in drinking water.

Maximum Permissible Ambient Noise Levels for Audiometric Test Rooms.

This Standard specifies maximum permissible ambient noise levels (MPANLs) allowed in an audiometric test room that produce negligible masking ( 2 dB) of test signals presented at reference equivalent threshold levels specified in ANSI S3.6-1996 American National Standard Specification of Audiometers. The MPANLs are specified from 125 to 8000 Hz in octave and one-third octave band intervals for ...

Maximum Permissible Urinary Concentrations: Their Relationship to Atmospheric Maximum Allowable Concentrations

There are two approaches to the determination of maximum permissible concentrations in urine (M.V.C.'s). The first is the direct method of comparing the concentration of toxic substances with the incidence of symptoms of intoxication. The second is the indirect approach of considering the worker as a sampling device and relating the urinary excretion to the atmospheric concentration to which th...

Maximum workplace concentration values and carcinogenicity classification for mixtures.

In Germany, the Commission for the Investigation of Health Hazards of Chemical Compounds in the Work Area (MAK Commission) generally sets maximum workplace concentration values (i.e., a proposed occupational exposure level [OEL]) for single substances, not for mixtures. For mixtures containing substances with a genotoxic and carcinogenic potential, the commission considered it scientifically in...
